Flame cutting is a thermal cutting process. The material is locally heated to the ignition temperature, and then burned in the cutting oxygen flow at this temperature. The heat generated by the heating flame and the heat of the material combustion make the material continuous in the cutting oxygen flow. The combustion process is self-diffusion in the depth and feed direction of the cutting oxygen injection, and the residue generated during combustion is ejected by the cutting oxygen injection force, thereby forming a slit.

According to the metal material and the thickness of the cut metal, from a process point of view, flame is generally recommended for cutting carbon steel plates above 5mm, because the thermal deformation of such steel plates is small. Stainless steel and non-ferrous metals cannot be cut with flame. The reason is that stainless steel produces a high-density oxide layer on the surface after heating, which prevents heat from being transferred downwards, thereby affecting the fusing of the plate; copper and aluminum and other non-ferrous metals have a strong heat dissipation capacity, resulting in severe cuts. The rapid loss of heat also affects the fusing of the plate. Conventional cutting specifications are divided into 5~100mm and 5~300mm, and special cutting thickness can be customized.
